The Data Source dropdown is the first choice in the Asset Builder, and it decides where the asset's price history comes from:

The same processing engine cleans every series, whichever source it came from—see processing asset data.
The Asset Ticker uniquely identifies an asset and cannot be changed once set. If you leave it blank, pfolio derives it for you. For a Data Provider asset it defaults to the provider ticker. For a Created asset it takes the base asset's ticker and appends an extension for each transformation applied: _e for backfill, _f for fee, y for yield,
Created assets are then available like any other when you select assets for a portfolio.
You can edit or delete only the assets you own. pfolio's assets open read-only through View Details, so you can inspect their setup and data but not change them. To work from one of these, build a Created asset on top of it. Owned assets, asset lists, and the database tables are covered in managing your asset database.
Your database comes preloaded with a standard set of common assets, available to everyone. Adding your own assets requires the Asset Builder add-on; without it the Asset Builder opens read-only and an alert points to where the add-on is activated. The Continuous Future type additionally requires the Futures add-on. Both are tier-gated, so the plan you are on determines whether they are available.
